The Road to Rhodes

It was an unplanned travel that turned into beautiful memories....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Euro99 ticket to Rhodos, Greece?! Too good (too cheap) to be true! But yeah, it was a legitimate offer. The catch? You return on the same day. :)

I "liked" the travel site Urlaubshamster in Facebook and have availed of their Berlin promo before. The Rhodos' offer was a last minute deal. As we have a long weekend, I thought, why not?! So, I booked the flights and informed some friends if they are interested. Unfortunately, the promo tickets are limited and slots went so fast for them to join us.

So, come 4:55 AM on the 27th of July, the hubby and I were off to a one-day Rhodes adventure!

Our first stop was a city tour. I booked a "Best of Rhodes" private tour which included a visit to the Medieval City of Rhodes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the New Town, and then, to the Acropolis of Lindos. In my opinion, this Euro 202 person tour is quite expensive and you can skip it. But, hey, we have one day, so what better way to spend it than 'luxuriously'.

Rhodes is the largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands on the Aegean's eastern edge and is the most most popular. The well-preserved medieval city of Rhodes sits at the north of the island of the same name. According to the UNESCO World Heritage Site website:

"The Order of St John of Jerusalem occupied Rhodes from 1309 to 1523 and set about transforming the city into a stronghold. It subsequently came under Turkish and Italian rule. With the Palace of the Grand Masters, the Great Hospital and the Street of the Knights, the Upper Town is one of the most beautiful urban ensembles of the Gothic period. In the Lower Town, Gothic architecture coexists with mosques, public baths and other buildings dating from the Ottoman period."

So let's see the BEST OF RHODES...:)
